Gotta love controversies! I am a HUGE LOST FAN! Even though the show struggled to keep many people's attention, it's one of my few Pop Culture Addictions I have left (that and blogging of course).
In the most recent episode, the year is supposedly 2004 and a woman falls from the sky after her helicopter allegedly explodes over the deserted island. She has a satellite phone which looks like the photo to the left.
This is ironic on so many levels. First off, the LCD-based interface is trademarked Apple iPhone circa 2007 - not 2004. Second, the button labeled "home" (middle column, top row) is the exact same icon as "home" in Apple's OSX. Similarly, the "satellite" icon (middle column, bottom row) is the same icon as "Remote Desktop Connection" which allows Macs to access Windows Servers through the Internet (also available on Mac's OSX).
Could this Satellite phone be an early cursor to the much fabled Apple iPhone? Is there a time warp involving the island, causing time to stand still... even though it's 2004 on the Island it's really 2007 in the real world? Did Apple copy their interface and icon development from some unspoken third-party satellite phone company?
Not likely, but it's fun to speculate. For a closeup on the phone, check out this link. If you want to buy an iPhone, don't forget to call your favorite Apple Business Agent (ie- ME). And if you want to figure out why the OTHERS are doing DNA experiments on pregnant ladies, and why the smoke just doesn't eat them all... check out LOST on ABC at 10pm EST.
Thanks to Engadget for the story.

Ha! I can always count on Jeff for my hybrid of LOST/Apple news!

dude, I would kill for that iPhone. And I'm getting ready to kill someone anyway, if I don't find out WHY THE HECK THE OTHERS ARE EVEN ON THE ISLAND soon. So maybe it's a win/win!
And by the way. Sorry about the truck tires. But don't worry. It turns out they don't fit my Prius anyway, so I'm going to have to bring them back.
